3 Core Affiliate Marketing Tactics

Affiliate Marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate's own marketing efforts. You, as the Affiliate, find a quality product, apply with the product creator for a link through which you will promote his product. Anytime someone buys his product through your affiliate link, you get an agreed upon percentage as a commission. The benefits of Affiliate Marketing is that it is easy to begin and the costs to start an Affiliate Marketing business are small, and the time to set up is short. You make considerably less money as an Affiliate Marketer than a Product Creator, but because your overhead cost are low, your profit margins are high.
To have a successful Affiliate Marketing business, you should follow the 3 core tactics listed below. While some of it seems common sense, you would be surprised how many people do not use all of these tips.
1. Have a landing page for every promoted product.
A landing page, otherwise known as a "squeeze page" is the place to which all your visitors should be directed when you are promoting products. You should, however, have a specific landing page for each promotion. Rather than have a single page where you have links to all your affiliate promotions, have a single page that describes the product and shows it in the best light without all the distraction of the other links. The last thing you want is to confuse your visitor with too many things to think about causing him to leave your page due to information overload. Landing pages do not need to be complex (see section below), but you should definitely have one page per product promotion. A lead page is the only way you will be able to capture the email address of the visitor before they leave your site forever. If they buy through your link, you'll have a commission coming to you, but you will have lost out on any future opportunity to email market to that person.
2. Have clear, concise, compelling copy.
Your landing page should be a mini sales page. You should be able to sum up the benefits of the product, give reasons why your visitor should buy it through your link, and tell them how the product will solve problems for the visitor. Don't make false claims here. It isn't right to guarantee that they would lose 20 pounds in a month if they purchase this product -- even if that is what the product creator claims. But you could say something along the lines of "Just think how much better you could look this summer wearing your bikini on the beach". See the difference? Make it compelling for the visitor to read further and purchase from you.
Other methods that work well are product reviews and expert interviews. If you have your own blog, you could write a review of the product and point to it on your landing page. You could also do a video review and post it on YouTube with a link (or embedded) into your landing page. If you have the opportunity to interview the product creator or another leading market individual, put that on your landing page as well. Whenever you find a customer that purchased the product and has positive things to say about it, ask them to give you a testimonial. Ask them to allow you to post it and their name on your landing page. Also ask for a recent photo. All of this leads to proof for the visitor that you are promoting a quality product that they want to own.
3. Give bonuses.
Buyers LOVE bonuses. They love free things so much sometimes they buy the product just so they can have the bonuses. You should have a section of your page devoted to just your bonuses where you can show a product picture and a brief description of each. Be sure you choose products that are complimentary to the product you are promoting. So, let's say you are promoting the new List Building Seminar Series. If you can find a nice WordPress Plugin that allows website owners to handle opt-ins intelligently on their site, allowing them to grow their list, you have found a worthy bonus. I usually try to have 5 really good bonuses to add.
You can find items to give away as promotional bonuses by searching for PLR material. There are several sites you can get material for free, and there are some better sites where you pay a subscription for a different, and changing set of PLR materials.I happen to like using the paid sites better, because some of the free sites either don't update their material and it is outdated, or that the other Affiliate Marketers have already made it to the site and flooded the market with these PLR materials. However, with some dutiful searching, I'm sure you can find some nice examples.
Once you have your PLR material, be sure to go through it carefully. A lot of times the reports have places where you must put your own branding information and links. If you just send it out as a bonus the way it is, it may be confusing to your new customer. Also check to make sure all the content makes sense for your promoted product. Since you now own the PLR material, you can change it any way you see fit. And by making those changes, you make a better bonus that uniquely fits the promoted product.
So, as you can see in this short article, the 3 basic core principles for Affiliate Marketing are simple, yet many fail to do them correctly or consistently. If you follow these steps with forethought, you'll be on your way to earning respectable money as an Online Affiliate Marketer.
