Does a Mentor Help You Build Your Business Faster?

Why to I think it is so helpful? Think of the time and money you could waste reinventing the wheel and trying endless ways to do things, instead of having a tried and tested plan to follow. Unless of course you fancy yourself as a new Thomas Edison and want to see how many ways there are of not doing something - do you have the time?
However it isn't just a case of finding any mentor, what should you be looking for? You must find someone you can relate to, someone you respect and like their working style. Are the demonstrations on the level you are at, at the moment so that you understand the techniques? Do you like a business-like manner or a laid-back approach? Do you work best from books, videos, phone calls or emails, or a mixture of training?
How much are you prepared to pay for your tuition? A private coach will be much more expensive than a group arrangement. Are you a fast learner or do you like the support of a group situation where you can help each other?
When should you find a mentor? Before you begin your project, during the initial stages, or when you "know what you don't know" and know what you have to learn?
I have had several mentors helping me with my business over the years. You may find at different stages you need different kinds of help. Initially you may need reassurance that what you want to do is possible and possible for you with your schedule. Later you may need help with technical aspects or more advanced techniques. Some mentors may be better with beginners, others more suitable when you have learnt the basics; personalities come into the equation too.
Where will you find the best mentor for you? Try visiting forums, Facebook groups, the internet, asking others in your line of business, perhaps you local chamber of commerce or advertisement and see if you can get recommendations. YouTube might offer some help for you, most searches can result in some videos to view.
So to summarise a mentor can save you time and money, by following a plan, you will gain support and encouragement, and perhaps confidence from the support of other members in your group.
