5 Tips to Writing Good Content

Your overall article, its tone, the effectiveness of the message and the way your audience rates it; is dependent on good content. Content is the basic substance of your article and if it's not up to the mark, an article written by even a highly skilled writer is bound to result in failure. This is why writers work so hard to ensure that the content of their article is good. However, there is no rocket science behind writing good content and even you, with the right approach to writing, can create highly effective and well-written content for your article.
Let us look at each aspect in more detail.
• Know before you write it
Bluffing as a writer is probably the worst thing one could ever do and such write-ups are bound to be neglected by the readers. Although it's true that many writers get away with it, the question is for how long? Even if you only write a single article, you cannot escape the fact that you are required to research the topic.
For instance, if I ask you to write a good, professional article on the impact of a Smartphone on the human heart, you would not be able to write even a single paragraph without digging up some information from the internet.
So, research is a very important aspect of writing good content and should be diligently done by a writer. You should at least use a couple of good references before writing the article. Try every resource you have - have an interview with a subject expert, look it up on the internet and keep your research going until you feel that now you can begin writing without making it up.
• Keep your readers in mind
It is eventually the readers who matter the most; so why not make it easier for them to relate to your article? To create good content, you should carefully analyze the likes and dislikes of your target audience. Once you have zeroed in on the interest areas of your readers, go ahead with your article.
Learn to speak the language which your audience finds the most comfortable. For instance, writing in a serious, business like tone in an article meant for children is not going to impress them. Always keep in mind that it's your idea, which needs to be put across to the target audience. The most effective way to do this, is to talk to them the way they like it!
• Avoid Grammatical errors
As a reader, there is nothing worse than an article having grammatically incorrect content. So, before you publish your article on a public platform, make sure that it has been checked for spelling and grammatical errors.
You should also be careful with the subject verb agreement, ie. If a subject is singular, its verb must also be singular. Other things to look out for are correct tenses and other small, yet significant aspects of grammar. An article containing grammatical mistakes is often treated as amateurish; irrespective of how well your expertise on the topic is.
• Be careful with the headline you are using
The headline of your article serves as the guide to your content and if it fails to grab the attention of a reader, the complete exercise is in vain. At least 7 out of 10 readers are going to skip your article and move on to the next one if the headline fails to impress them!
So, the next time you are going to write an article, ensure that the headline is well-written, is concise and has the right tone attached to it. Also make sure that the headline contains the right words which make the readers curious about your article. If this does not happen, your article is bound to be rejected straightaway.
• Make your article easy to read and comprehend
Last but not the least; your article needs to be written in an easy-to-read language which the audience can easily relate to. For instance, a guide to gardening will have a different feel than a manual to rocket science. Read out each sentence of your article. If it feels like normal speech, you should go ahead with it.
