Whether you are wanting to create a blog or a website to advertise
products or sell items, there are certain steps every website owner
needs to take to get started.
It is possible to create a free
website by identifying offers and promotions available within various
domain and hosting providers however, for long-term use the best method
is to secure a solid and reliable provider.
Various companies offer both domain names and hosting as a package however it is possible to secure each individually.
Whichever way you select, the chronological order is always the same.
1.
Choose your domain name - after selecting the company you are going to
register with, the next step is to ensure the domain name you want is
available. You will type the name into the search box available and, if
it is not available, suggestions will be offered, often very close to
your original choice but with slight changes, including different
endings like .com, .co.UK, .org, .net and so on, known as extensions.
The purchase price can range enormously from a couple of dollars
(usually the universal currency used) to thousands of dollars. The
choice is yours!
2. Choose your hosting provider - on securing
your domain name you then need to get a hosting company which will
actually display your website on the internet. As previously said, this
can be the same company as the website domain provider or completely
different. This can cost anything from a few dollars per month to a lot
more depending on the services you want. To get started, just chose the
smallest package available as this can be increased or upgraded if you
need to do so at a later date.
Part of acquiring your domain name
is changing your nameservers which is the part of the hosting which
directs your website to the place it will be displayed online.
Directions are provided by each provider on how to do this. It is a
small task which takes literally minutes to complete.
On completion of these steps, you are ready to create your website and get it displayed.
You need to think about the content of your website carefully. Have a look at a few you use regularly and how they look.
Important
aspects you need to include are an "About Me" page which explains who
you are, how you can be contacted and the reason you have a website.
Another
is a "Disclaimer" page which explains what you are not liable or
responsible for and visitors actions or results are entirely based on
their own choices.
A very popular choice of company to create your
website is WordPress. They have hundreds of ready-made templates which
you simply need to click onto and change to your information, much like a
Word document in word processing, hence the name.
